Beast in Black Turn “Lost Children” Into an Epic Power Ballad

Beast in Black have unveiled “Lost Children,” the next song from their forthcoming fourth studio album Fear The Beast. Rather than leading with pure speed, the Finnish group frame the track as a large-scale power ballad: dramatic vocals, a cinematic build and the band’s familiar affection for heightened storytelling all take centre stage.

The official announcement from Nuclear Blast confirms that the song arrived ahead of the band’s European headline run, which opened in London on October 26. It also places “Lost Children” firmly inside the creative world that has followed Beast in Black since their early releases: the manga Berserk.

A darker chapter behind the song

Guitarist and songwriter Anton Kabanen points to the “Lost Children” chapter of Berserk as the central inspiration. His interest is not limited to the imagery. The story’s moral tension — innocence, fear, cruelty and the consequences of desperation — gives the song an emotional arc that fits a ballad better than a straightforward battle anthem.

That makes the new single an interesting counterpoint to “Fear The Beast,” the album’s title track. Where the earlier song announced the record with a sharper, more direct attack, “Lost Children” expands the palette. Yannis Papadopoulos delivers the melody with the kind of soaring theatrical control that has become one of the band’s defining features, while the arrangement gives the chorus room to breathe.

A cinematic presentation

The accompanying video was directed by Katri Ilona Koppanen, a returning collaborator. The label describes the clip as a cinematic extension of the song’s emotional scale. The visual treatment follows the music’s gradual rise instead of treating the single as a conventional performance video.

For Beast in Black, the combination is familiar but not static. Their work has always balanced heavy-metal immediacy with synth textures, melodic hooks and fantasy storytelling. “Lost Children” uses those elements with a more vulnerable tone, showing that the band can make a song feel massive without relying only on tempo or density.

What it signals for Fear The Beast

The new song suggests that the fourth album will not be built around a single mood. The title track established a forceful heavy-metal direction; “Lost Children” adds a slower, emotionally layered side. Together they point toward a record designed around contrast — power and fragility, spectacle and reflection.

Beast in Black are currently taking the material across Europe with Sonata Arctica and Frozen Crown on selected dates. The tour gives the band an immediate stage on which to test how the new ballad sits beside established crowd favourites.
