The Serbian black metal project Strahor has released the official music video for the new single “Gorski Car”, offering the first glimpse of the band’s upcoming EP.
Strahor is the creation of Serbian musician Volkh, who started the project in 2017 at a remarkably young age. Since then the project has steadily developed within the Balkan underground metal scene, releasing three full-length albums along with several singles and independent releases.
The name Strahor refers to one of the ancient deities of the old Slavic pantheon, reflecting the project’s strong connection to pagan mythology and regional folklore. These themes have shaped the project’s identity from the beginning, with lyrics and imagery often drawing from traditional legends, spirituality and historical narratives rooted in the Slavic world.
The new single “Gorski Car”, which roughly translates to “Mountain Emperor”, tells the story of a forgotten mountain prince, a solitary wanderer whose legend echoes throughout many Slavic tales. The narrative also draws inspiration from the historical phenomenon of the hajduk, figures from Balkan history who were often portrayed as rebellious fighters resisting occupying forces and protecting local communities. Over time their stories became intertwined with folklore, transforming them into mythological symbols of resistance and freedom.
Musically, Strahor combines harsh black metal vocals with a dark, melodic atmosphere. The aggressive vocal delivery gives the music its raw edge while the compositions build an immersive soundscape shaped by the project’s mythological themes.
According to the band, the upcoming EP represents a new step both musically and visually. The release was first announced in February and introduces a slightly different approach to Strahor’s sound and imagery while remaining rooted in the mythological atmosphere that defines the project.
Strahor continues to operate fully independently, with all material self-released and no label or promoter involved. The current focus is entirely on the new material and on bringing more attention to the Serbian underground metal scene.
