Nicko McBrain Turns the Drum Riser into a Storytelling Stage This Autumn

Nicko McBrain is taking a different kind of show on the road this autumn. Instead of sitting behind Iron Maiden’s famously expansive drum kit, he will step into theatres for a spoken-word evening built around stories from a lifetime in music.

The official Iron Maiden announcement says the run begins in Frankfurt on 26 October 2026 and continues through Germany, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Ireland and the United Kingdom. The format is deliberately intimate: memories from behind the drum stool, lessons from McBrain’s early life and a closer look at the highs and setbacks that shaped his career.

A drummer as narrator

For metal audiences, McBrain’s personality has always been part of the performance. His playing is precise and athletic, but his humour and warmth have also made him one of the most recognisable figures around the band. A theatre tour puts that side of him at the centre.

This is not presented as an Iron Maiden concert, and fans should arrive with the right expectations. The attraction is the chance to hear how major tours, studio sessions and decades of band life look from the drummer’s seat. Spoken-word shows work when the details are specific: the small decisions, mistakes and unlikely moments that never fit into a standard press release.

Why the timing matters

McBrain stepped back from touring with Iron Maiden after the band’s final 2024 show, following health challenges that he has discussed publicly. The group has continued its live work with Simon Dawson, while McBrain remains closely connected to the Maiden family. That makes these evenings more than nostalgia. They offer a way to revisit a long career without pretending that nothing has changed.

The official itinerary begins just days after the current South American leg of the Run For Your Lives tour. It also arrives during a period when Iron Maiden’s history is being examined from several angles, including anniversary releases and a busy programme of touring and fan events.

What fans should check

Dates and ticket availability can change, so the band’s official announcement and the individual venue pages remain the authoritative sources. Fans travelling between countries should also confirm start times, age restrictions and accessibility directly with each theatre.

The autumn run is a reminder that heavy metal history does not live only in records and arena set lists. Sometimes it is best heard in a room, from the musician who watched the whole machine move from the back of the stage.
