It’s been an exciting 48 hours for Deftones fans. First, Chino Moreno revealed that the band will release a new album in 2020, which would be newsworthy under any circumstances, but is extra-newsworthy because by then it will have been four years since the release of their last record, Gore. And now we have fan-filmed video of the group giving the song “Smile,” from their legendarily shelvedErosalbum, its live debut. They released the studio version of the track back in 2014, but playing it live for the first time is obviously a big deal. Rightfully or wrongfully, this gives fans hope that Eros, which contains the final recordings of late bassist Chi Cheng, will be released someday.
Watch the performance below. Deftones are scheduled to play Download Festival next June and will presumably be announced for other European festivals. You can keep an eye on tickets here.
